Are Perfumes Harmful in Skincare

If you read through our reviews, you will notice that a very common comment is how much people love the heavenly scent of our products.

People are surprised to know that we don’t use perfumes!

The scent of our products comes from the fruits and plants in our formulations.

Let me tell you why I’m so proud if this…

95% of the chemicals used in perfumes are derived from petroleum (yes, crude oil) and include benzene derivatives, toluene, aldehydes and many carcinogenic compounds.

Why You Should Avoid Fragrance in Skincare?

When you see the word "fragrance" or “perfume” listed in the ingredients, it actually refers to a complex formula made with thousands of chemicals that can be toxic.

What’s worse, “fragrance” manufacturers are not required by law to disclose their full list of ingredients to consumers or to governing bodies like the FDA.
You ever wonder why you get headaches when you are in a room filled with chemical fragrances and perfume? Your body is telling you something.

Did you know that some people are actually allergic to perfumes?

Approximately 12-15% of the American population is allergic or sensitive to some of the chemicals that are found in commercial fragrances.

It’s easy to understand why some people are developing these allergies and reactions...

Think about the many chemicals that enter your system in the form of fragrances and perfumes found in your lotions, soaps, makeup, shampoos, conditioners, sprays, hair products... the list goes on.

Apart from allergic reactions like severe headaches and migraines, other symptoms of fragrance intolerance can include a runny nose, watery eyes, and even asthma attacks.

Perfumes are vapours that enter our bodies through our nose, and according to The Canadian Lung Association, they can cause serious health problems like cancer, birth defects, and central nervous system disorders, they are hormone disruptors and can cause liver damage.

Essential oils (typically) will not have that effect because essential oils are medicinal, while perfume and fragrances have chemically derived toxins.

What we eat, what we breathe, and what we put on our skin, and yes even what we think will determine how free from sickness we actually are or, can be.
At Lulo Skin, when we craft our formulations, we think about all aspects of wellbeing. There are many brands in the market that claim to be clean and non-toxic but fall in the trap of adding perfumes, colorants, or chemical textures.

Lulo Skin products are not only perfume free; they are clean, non-toxic, organic, and cruelty-free.

We don’t add colorants and are free from parabens, phthalates, irritants, silicones, formaldehyde, hydroquinone, and any chemical identified by the David Suzuki Foundation as “The Dirty Dozen”.
